I use the "Voted for You" button to return votes, unless I see that you downvoted me if my score went down right after you voted.
Downvoters are just annoying and childish, so DON'T DO IT. gah.

And it's also really annoying and stupid when someone thinks I downvoted them because I'm in the same contest as them, when actually I gave them a 10. I'm more mature than to downvote people. It's better to give than receive, so im happy when anyone wins. goodluck to everyone.
